Building Client Relationships

Before a sale happens, you have to create that know, like and trust factor.

Gone are the days where you run an ad and people flock to you + buy from you for that reason only. The sales landscape has really changed over the last few years, and it is expected to evolve even further in the future.


So, what makes people buy from you? Besides a great product or service, the answer is simple. TRUST.


If you don’t have the trust behind your brand, there are a million other people out there selling the same thing as you, and human nature is to navigate to a business whom they trust. If you aren’t building a brand that accomplishes this, you are missing out on potential clients. And the truth is, it doesn’t have to be complicated! Here are a few tips on establishing a trustworthy brand and building nurturing relationships with your audience.


Show Yourself

Don’t hide behind stock photos and images on social media, show your face! People want to know who they are buying from. If you have a website, make sure you have photos of yourself on it. A Facebook or Instagram page? Use a head-shot instead of a logo for your profile picture. Showcase products in your Instagram stories with you explaining them. It doesn’t have to be complicated, get creative in the ways you let your customers get to know you.


Get Vulnerable

You may have heard this frequently in the online space lately, and its because there’s something to it. It flows back to people wanting to know who they are buying from. Tell your story. Why did you start your business? When it gets hard, explain why you found that situation difficult to your audience, and explain how you overcame these hardships. You don’t have to explain all your life details but letting people into your real-life every once in awhile does wonders for nurturing client relationships.


Know Your Why

Lastly but most importantly, ensure you are crystal clear on your reason for starting your business in the first place. It’s going to make it difficult to foster relationships you’re trying so hard to build, if you aren’t even sure the reasons behind what you’re doing. Granted, money plays a factor for most people in starting a business. But this shouldn’t be the only reason why you chose to become an entrepreneur, there’s a bigger picture behind your choice and you need to know it (plus people aren’t going to trust someone only in it for the money). If you get clear on your mission, then other ideas will flow to you more naturally, and your audience will feel that authenticity from you. If you don’t know your why, I suggest taking a step back and really focusing on this major detail first!


There is so much more to this subject that I hope to expand on in future posts, but hopefully this will give you a good start to building a genuine relationship with your audience.
